Sam Welch Composer • Singer • Producer

Sam grew up in Cambridge, MA and was educated at Columbia University and the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Sam comes from a musical family. He has studied piano since the age of 8 and has received formal voice training at Columbia and the Longy School of Music. Sam started his own barbershop quartet in high school along with participating in classical choral performances and theater.

 

While in college Sam was a member of the male acapella group the Columbia Kingsmen and toured the country. Sam has worked in the legal industry as well as in education and human services. Sam has been writing and recording music since 2000.

 

As a young adult Sam suffered from depression and was treated at McLean Hospital. Sam is a practicing Unitarian and has worked as an advocate for individuals with psychiatric disabilities. Sam served for a short time in the Navy and has traveled in Europe, Africa and South America. Sam’s songs explore the convergence between themes of spiritual transcendence and emotional dysregulation. Sam lives with his two cats Ophelia and Lucy in Lunenburg, MA.
